Trump: Debate and Covid

As you no doubt heard President Trump didn't have a very good week. Lagging in the polls he entered the first Presidential debate with his challenger, Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden, needing to show swing voters that he was not an overgrown man baby-bully with small hands who delighted in using racist, sexist, and otherwise exclusionary language against everyone who wasn't him or his.

Apparently no one told Trump that this was the plan. I don't think that Trump was even aware that there was a plan to follow or a script to try to use as a guide. He is someone who appears to believe that accepting criticism or admitting that he's not perfect is a grave sin.

At the debate Trump behaved like a surly two year old who had just discovered throwing his crappy diapers against the wall irritated people. Trump interrupted and insulted Biden, insulted Biden's family, made fun of Biden wearing a mask, interrupted and insulted the debate moderator, refused to accept any responsibility for any negative events during his Presidency, and dodged almost every question aimed at him while attempting to blame Biden and of course President Obama for everything that had gone wrong over the past four years while Trump was President.

Of course Trump didn't admit that anything HAD gone wrong but if it had it certainly wasn't his fault, no sir!  Trump hinted that he would unleash his supporters to invade polling stations and "watch" to be sure that ballots were countered properly.

Trump also refused to give even the most cursory denunciation of white supremacist Trump supporters , instead asking them to stand back and stand by. Trump and the most unctuous execrable non-vertebrates still found in his nest thought that he "won" the debate.  Just about everyone else disagreed..

And while many voters were wondering how and when debate moderators can or should cut a sitting president's microphone or tell him to sit his $5 a$$ down before the moderator comes up to the stage to make change, President Trump announced that both he and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19
Although Presidential Advisor Hope Hicks may have been the Typhoid Mary in this little outbreak, the bigger problem was that Trump was greedy enough, arrogant enough, or desperate enough to still attend a New Jersey fundraiser after he knew there might be a problem. Other Republicans such as Rona McDaniel and Senator Mike Lee, who may or may not have been in close contact with Trump and company, also announced that they had tested positive for Covid-19.
You may vaguely remember that certain Republicans, including Senators and supposed men of God, found it a source of great humor to offer a prayer for President Obama, one that can be found in Psalm 109: 8-20. What's that you say? Not up on your psalms? Well that prayer goes something like this:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.
Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

So I hope that anyone who found humor in saying that to President Obama doesn't get their unmentionables in a bunch if others offer such benediction to President Trump. All in good fun right? We shall soon learn if seeing their cult leader admit sickness will make certain people start accepting the efficacy of mask wearing and social distancing or if they still believe that this is all a conspiracy by the Deep State to make conservatives look stupid.
Even before I knew that Trump was sick, or to be more precise, infected, I didn't think that Biden should do any more debates with Trump. Although Biden should have gone off on Trump's family when Trump attacked Biden's, the reality of it is that wrestling with a pig in pig-s*** doesn't get you much more than being dirty and stinky, just like the pig. Now that Trump is a literal danger to anyone near him, I think that Biden should just refuse to debate Trump until (a) Trump has three negative tests and (b) moderators agree to mute anyone who interrupts.
What an election this is turning out to be. If nothing else I hope this reminds people that the coronavirus is out there. It hasn't vanished. Right now the only effective methods of handling it involve wearing masks, testing, social distancing, and washing hands. Doing otherwise puts you at risk.
