Trump and Mika Brzezinski

If I were a foreign agent or diplomat observing the President of the United States I would certainly be taking copious notes on how easily the President can be baited into saying or doing something silly or nasty. Over and over again the President finds it necessary to engage in puerile insults or get into back-and-forth with media personalities. He also has a two-year-old's attention span and need for validation. And he has extreme sensitivity to anything that hints that he's not the most virile and ahem..largest man ever. Not for Trump anything that implies that he's not always right, not always heh-heh, ready to go, and not necessarily swinging the biggest bat in town. This is information which could be of interest and use to foreign decision makers at some point down the line, if it hasn't been already. 

 For someone who claims to disdain the mainstream media Trump seems remarkably well informed of what they are saying about him. It's apparent, that far from dismissing the media and so-called intelligentsia, Trump desperately craves their approval and adulation. He needs it. He must have it. And when he doesn't get it, like the two-year-old he resembles he throws temper tantrums.

A segment on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" in which co-host Mika Brzezinski said President Donald Trump was "destroying the country" might have been what led Trump to attack her viciously on Twitter on Thursday morning.

The segment took aim at a fake Time magazine cover featuring Trump that reportedly hangs at a number of Trump's golf clubs and properties, according to The Washington Post.

"Nothing makes a man feel better than making a fake cover of a magazine about himself, lying every day, and destroying the country," Brzezinski said. Brzezinski also noted that on the fake Time cover, Trump was covering his hands "because they're teensy.





Trump apparently couldn't stand that and responded on twitter.


 Brzezinski then returned fire.


I'm not saying that media personalities should be able to throw rocks at someone and then scream foul when someone throws rocks back at them. I am saying that the President of the United States should have better things to do with his time than to worry about what a media personality said about him. President Trump has rabbit ears. He's super sensitive to any criticism. There are plenty of formal or informal Trump surrogates who can and do respond to those who attack Trump. Trump should stay out of such kerfuffles. Punching down, and the President of the United States, is by definition almost always punching down, is rarely a good look. 
It usually comes across as bullying. Many Republicans mumbled statements distancing themselves from Trump's tweets. In some social circles when you say what Trump did about someone's wife, fiancee or girlfriend, it's considered appropriate for her male partner to pick up the nearest tire iron or baseball bat and offer to meet you in a parking lot so that you can repeat your comments to him. That's not applicable here because of Trump's age and position. So he should stop the bs tough talk and insults. It's cowardly because Trump knows he can't be called to account. It is "interesting" though that evidently large numbers of voters are supportive of this attitude, or at least are not turned off by it. Democrats should take notes as well.

 Is this really where America is, that the President of the United States is calling a female cable personality crazy, ugly and dumb while she effectively replies that she don't want no short d*** man? Really folks? Well yes, yes it is. This vulgarity, hypersensitivity, sense of victimization and unhinged aggression that Trump displays is shared by much of his base. They like that. That's part of the reason they voted for Trump. No one should be surprised by Trump's responses. The challenge of the Democrats is to sift thru the electorate to inspire their own base and slice off just enough independent leaning Republicans to win. Expanding the electorate is always a good idea. The problem is that judging by past experiences, Trump's voters won't desert him unless and until they see him break faith on issues they really care about or are undeniably hurt by Trump policies. Crassly insulting women isn't an issue they care about. And that's all I have to say about that.
